General Links

At the moment the links are sort of scarce, you can find a couple links listed for each series on the form page if you click on the name of the title.  There will also be links listed for each of the features, slowly but surely I'll be adding them

Animaxis - Online store located in Japan.  Sells everything from stationary to Japanese dvds.  Excellant place to find those hard to find things for people like myself who live in the sticks.  Beware of high shipping costs, these items are being shipped straight from Japan.

Sasuga Bookstore - Located in Boston, MA, great place to find manga.  If they don't have it in stock, they'll order it and you don't have to pay expense international shipping costs.

AnimeOnDVD.com - Great source for all anime on dvd.  I get all my licensing info from this site, the update section of their licensing list has all the latest on what anime has recently been purchased for US distribution.  They also have a list of what is rumored to be licensed, might give you a heads up on what is going to be taken off the list.

Anime Daisuki - Information on all the latest and upcoming shows airing in Japan.

Ebay Auctions - If you haven't seen them yet, there are a lot of auctions for Chinese DVDs that include English subtitles currently up for auctions on Ebay.  I have bought a few different series with mixed results.  All and all these dvds are not as good quality as the US dvds, they don't have any extras and you miss out on some of the helpful explanations that fansubs provide, but they are very reasonably priced for what you get.  The average is about $10.00 per cd.  My only complaint would be with one series I bought they changed all the names of the characters to Chinese names, and you can still clearly hear them saying the Japanese name.  The seller that I happen to use is located in the US, which cuts down on shipping costs - game288

Q: Take me through The Process

Step 1: Make your request. Use the checkboxes provided for the anime series that you are requesting. You can either pick from the pre-compiled cds or pick and choose what episodes you want to make a compilation cd. Choose which options you would like for labeling, storage and postal services. Finally, enter any suggestions, or special instructions you may have, the form of payment you will be using and your email address, then submit the form. You will get a screen confirming that your request has been placed.

Step 2: Confirmation. After making your request, I will email you back giving payment instructions. Usually I will respond to your email in approximately 24 hours, if it has been 48 hours with no response, and I have no special notices stating that I am unavailable, email me. Follow the instructions in regards to making payment, and make sure to double check that you have requested the correct cds, files, and options.

Step 3: Payment. Once I have received your payment you will be added to the queue of requests and will receive an email giving you an estimate of when your cds will be mailed out. I receive most payments within a week, if a week goes by and you have no response, and I have no special notices stating that I am unavailable, email me.

Step 4: Mailing your request. I try to get your cds out as close as I can to when I estimated, if I have a delay of more than a couple days, I will email you. If more than three days go past the date I told you your request would be mailed and you have not received an email letting giving you your delivery confirmation #, email me.

Step 5: Delivery. Depending on where you live, and what time of year it is, you should receive your cds in about a week. Out of country requests will most likely take longer, each country would differ. You can check the status of your package by going online to http://www.usps.com/shipping/epstrac.htm and typing in the delivery confirmation # that you received by email when I sent your cds.  If you loose this number I always have it on record. This should let you know when the package was sent and what is happening with it. If it has been over a week and you still have not received your package, email me.

Step 6: Playing your cds. Space permitting, I try to add all the files that you will need to play your cds on your computer, including the correct media player and codecs. If you have problems watching the files please read through the section of Q&A Advise on playing the files first, if my suggestions still aren’t working for you or you need further assistance email me.

At any time feel free to send me an email or leave me a message on the board.

Q: Will these cds work on my DVD player?  Are they VCDs?

No, the cds I make are not VCDs and will not play on a  DVD player.  They are data cds made to work on your computer using a regular cd drive or dvd-rom drive.

Q: Form of payment?

A: I will accept cash, check, money order, paypal - pick a payment type and wait to do any signing up until I after I send you a confirmation email.  Paypal can be used for accepting both credit cards and electronic checks.  US currency only will be accepted.  I take no responsibility for money lost through the mail.  Since Paypal recently changed there policy on credit card transactions, I was forced to start a new account with them and now have to charge a fee of 3% forr credit card transactions.

Q: Out of Country Requests

A:  I don't mind sending something out of the country, but I'm not sure what the extra cost will come to and I will need payment in us currency.  Make note of what country and zip codes the cds will to be sent to in the comments field of the request form and I will contact you to make arrangements and advise you of the extra cost.  I recently checked with the post office and global priority mail to Canada and Mexico is $8.00 up to one pound.

Each country has there own procedures for handling customs, it is your responsibility to check into what your country might charge your for receiving an international package.  The US has different procedure for each country as well, some for our delivery confirmation will be required with your request.  All international orders are declared at a value of $5 and as a gift, if you need me to make any adjustments to what I declare, let me know.

Q: Turnaround Time?

A: I try to get burning as soon as payment is received, sorry, but I can't start ahead of time.  Obviously, the larger the request the longer it will take and I work on a first come first serve basis, but generally requests for under 8 cds (no compilations/special requests) should take three days to be mailed from the day I receive payment.  At times recently I have been getting backed up, I will let you know if I am experiencing a delay.  Please check the top of the page to see what I am working at for turnaround time at the moment.

Q: Trade/Sharing Questions

A: I do take trades, but you will need to contact me about what I will accept and how much I will give you in return.  If you want to send me something on streamload, my account is linlee011.  As downloading from streamload cost money I can't really accept sending something to my streamload account as a real trade.  Of course, if you do send me something on cd I will make a copy of it and send your original back with the cd copies I have made for you.  Do to recent problems, all trades must be received first before I send your request.

I found a site that does cd for cd trade in the UK - http://www.animetradeuk.dot.nu

Q: Quality

A: Of course quality is subjective, but I have tried to give you a clue as to how good the video, sound, subbing is for each series.  Digital fansubs are really no substitution for animation distributed by real production companies, although a rare few come close.  It is unfortunate that some series never seem to be bought by American distributors and it is really great of fansubbers to make these series available for avid fans to watch and understand.  Feel free to ask me for more information on any of the series quality.  BTW, the Jenna scale is merely my opinion of the show.

Q: Are the files compatible with my computer/software?

A: All the files are previewed on my computer, I use Realplayer Basic 8, Windows Media Player 6 & Windows Media Player 7 and I have never had any problems running any of the files on this list.   I prefer using WMP 6, but I have found that some files will only work on WMP 7 and only after it has auto-searched the microsoft web site for updates/codecs.  If I burn a cd for you, I will include the player that coincides with the files on the cd, space permitting.  Just a bit of advice, if you are having problems install WMP 7, start up your internet connection and try it again, the auto-search won't work if you are not on-line.  Every once in a while an avi file will actually play better on Realplayer than it does on WMP, nothing on this list comes to mind though.

Q: What are the file formats?

AVI - Playable on both windows media player and realplayer
Binary/ASX - Binary files, playable on windows media player and realplayer.
WM/WMP - Windows Media Player Files, also plays in realplayer
RM/RAM - Realplayer files, will only play on Realplayer
VIV - File made specifically for vivplayers. will not play on any other players
RT/SMIL - Files that hold the actual subtitles to be used with the .rm files.  How to use:  after downloading all three files (.rm, .rt, .smil) open the .smil file, it will automatically open the .rm file and the subtitles will appear below.  Be sure not to rename any of the files, also they must be kept in the same folder to work successfully.  By selecting the smil file on the cds that I have made it will automatically work in realplayer, you do not have to put the files on your harddrive to run them.

Q: Where do you get all the fansubs?

A: I get a lot of my stuff off of Streamload, an on-line file storage site used for sharing images and video files.  You must have an account in order to download these files to your computer.  This list is only what I have and is by no means the only fansubs available on streamload.  The best place to find fansubs is http://www.cuteworld.net the download section has a list compiled of most of the anime available on streamload and requests can be made on the cuteworld message board.  There are also tons of places on IRC, but I don't usually have the time to go looking around, so I use streamload instead.

Q: How is Streamload's quality of service:

A: I have rarely found anything on the internet that was actually available 24/7, so keeping that in mind, streamload is a very good storage site.  As everything in life you should thoroughly read all documentation available, before making a decision to buy.  It is possible to be a freeloader and not have to pay the basic $7.95 monthly fee for 1 GB of downloading, but I recommend joining.  Being a freeloader is good for testing the system out, but is extremely limiting for anime freaks such as myself.  One last note, streamload is meant for trading not really for storage, so you can't keep files up there for an extended time without trading them, streamload keeps track of how often a file is used, they keep popularity meters for each file in your folder, and will delete it after a time.

Q: What if I want something that isn't on this list?

A: If you have something that you want burned on a cd for you that it not shown here, first check the cuteworld streamload list, if it is not licensed and available on streamload let me know and I'll request it and burn it for you, depending on the circumstance I can't guarantee how long this will take.  If the files are not on the streamload list and is not licensed, look for it out on the web, if you can find it somewhere I will try my best to download it for you and burn it, again I can't guarantee how long it will take or if it is even possible.  Please no hentai stuff and I only do anime.

Q: What if something on the request list is licensed?

A: Please advise me by email, including the source of your information.  And thanks for letting me know.

Q: Advice on playing the files

A: This is sort of a reiteration of things that I have already said.  First off, always make sure when you are opening a file in whichever player that you are set to view all file types.  It sounds stupid, but you would be amazed at the amount of people who think that files are not there because they were not paying attention to this.

If you have any of the following: no video, but have audio; received error unable to find proper codec - for all formats except rm, first try installing the divx codec that I put on the cd with your files.  Second try using (or installing since it should also be on the cd) WMP 7 and play the file while you are on-line and see if the auto-search finds the appropriate codec to play the file.  If it doesn't search for any files, you may have taken that option off when you installed the player. If everything else fails try using Realplayer.  Every once in a while an avi file will actually play better on Realplayer than it does on WMP, nothing on this list comes to mind though.

For RMs you have to use Realplayer, but it works pretty much the same and there are rarely any need for getting updates, but if you have problems as stated above the player also has an auto update search that will require you to be on-line while you trying playing the file.  The most common problems with RMs is that the video will freeze and the audio will continue, unfortunately the only thing that I have found to work is to skip ahead a few seconds on the file.  There are sometimes bad spots on a file and you will always have to skip them, they can even cause the player to crash.  The second most common problem, although it really isn't a problem, is the rt & smil files.  First, you always open with the smil file, it will search for the rt and rm in the same folder, so always keep the files together and never rename any of them-very important.  Second, try not to fast forward or stop while watching these files, that can sometimes screw up the subtitles and they will start to disappear or only show some of the words.

Lastly, trying shutting your computer down completely for at least 10 seconds and rebooting.  Sometimes these files can really hog up memory and cause problems playing.
